The boy child is finally back in preschool so his normalcy is returning. Behavior has been awfully bad the past few days but I suspect it will settle soon.
The girl child is allowing me to leave rooms without throwing herself to the floor in despair or melting your ear drums with ever increasing volumes of anguish.
My house remains a damn mess, but my guest room is spotless. I've got so many books given as gifts I'm not sure where to put them because my library shelves are full and I don't want any 'out of sight out of mind' moments to occur.
Have I mentioned my house is a damned mess? We have toys coming out of every crevice. I desperately want to get rid of half of them, but when I sit down to do so I find myself thinking "no, but he plays with those. no, she likes those." because there isn't a single toy in our house the children don't still play with. Which, maybe, says something about either our kids or the actual amount of toys. I don't know.
I can't even enter the kitchen, which has pots and pans piled cabinet high in the drying rack and little tidbits of holiday baking left out here and there. My butler's pantry is jam packed with things that need put away but I don't know where to put them.
In short, I am feeling out of sorts and it is entirely due to the state of my house. Yet I can not muster the energy to do anything about it. Endless circle of FAIL.
I did luck out on a giveaway yesterday, much to my surprise. I almost never win those things yet am enticed by them frequently. Yesterday was a Random House giveaway, and as I am a sucker for books I gave it a go. Imagine my shock when I was DM'd that I'd won an advanced review copy of Daughter of the Centaurs by Kate Klimo?! I can't wait to read it. But I will. Because I promised my friend Lucy I'd make her book my first read of the year, and I aim to fulfill that promise. Also I've been waiting for this third installment since I finished the second installment about a week after I got my hands on it. HER BOOKS ARE THAT GOOD. If you like urban fantasy, please please do yourself a favor and check out my friend Lucy Snyder's Jessie Shimmer books.
Anyway, I haven't got the Klimo book yet have I? And there are about 32 bajillion other paper books (PAPER) to read. And creative projects to get to work on. And a friend to email back about some work.
I have also been immersed in season 2 of Babylon 5 and season 3 of Earth: Final Conflict. Because my life is not complete without spaceplane. So I've also just been being lazy.
I was not lazy pre-holidays, though. Aside from getting the holiday stuff pulled together, working on my Sekret Exchange gifts and my guest post...I was also doing a little Reduce Reuse Recycle experimenting so I could Guest Post over on Imagine Gnats while she's away on her honeymoon (CONGRATULATIONS, RACHAEL!!). So scoot over there and see what I wrote, and don't forget to comment!
And now that I have told you why I have not been around,
let me share some more Holiday Handmade Sekret Exchange posts!
Suzanne of Bebehblog recently posted hers, go see what amazingness Kelley made her!
and Justine from A Half Baked Life got her sweet gifts from Suzanne and now has her post up!
That means there are only two of us left to post, Rachael is away on honeymoon and I am just waiting to receive mine. You can always go back to the main page for the HHSE to see what people got and how their crafty givers made them, as I have been updating the links for each participant as guests posts go up.
Thank you to everyone who has participated! I hope you've found it a worthwhile experience and all the handmadeness has taken the edge off the shop-a-holic holidays.
I can't wait for next year's (oh, crap - that would be *this* year's, wouldn't it) HHSE!! You've got some crafty blog buddies, Miss Audrey.
ReplyDeleteAnd on the mess front? Me, too. I took down our tree over the weekend, but can't find homes for all of the newly acquired stuff. Like I said on my blog, I feel like I'm being buried alive under Big Wheels and Little People.
I know it's easy to say; but try to go to bed really early one night. Your energy level will be better in the morning.
You have got to keep me informed when you change blog addresses, girl. I was wondering why I hadn't been seeing anything posted by you. Tsk tsk. :)
ReplyDeleteWhoops, mine arrived and I have to connect with my maker. And I hope that my present arrived at its destination, too! No word yet, though!
ReplyDeleteSorry, Aud. I thought I told you. :( And I'm trying to do NaBloPoMo for January. The spirit is willing, but the tired old fingers are weak.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, about the sit & spin - Mason's EC classroom has one, and he picked it up from watching the bigger kids. I'm going to put a video of him spinning on it on flickr this weekend, so Daddy can see while he's away. You can maybe try showing it to Ev?
And Mason doesn't get the bike thing, either. He's had a little bike with training wheels since last June, and he just stands on the floor & pushes with his feet. We try & try, but the pedals are a no go. His OT said some kids don't learn until they're 5, so we're not too worried yet. But yeah, I think he's missing out on tearing around the house & driveway, and feel pretty bad for him.
