First Finish in 2012

So it's official. Yesterday I finished the quilt for my friend Beth's soon-to-be-born son, Gage. My first completed sewing project, or any project really!, in the new year. As promised, here are the pictures!

I tried something new since bindings give me such fits and made the edging on the front a little wider so I could double fold it over onto the back. That way I knew the front would look clean as I sewed with the back side up making sure that side looked clean. No missed edges this time! Man I hate binding. I like contrast colors on the edge to boost the overall look, but not as much as I like clean edges.

Isn't it pretty? I kind of love it. Chris wants to keep it, but no.

So now I have to make a flat cat, because I just remembered yesterday I was going to make one for Beth's kiddo. I hope to have it done by the end of the weekend, then I can start on my friend Christa's quilt - the design of which I came up with yesterday. It's going to push my abilities a bit so I hope it turns out well!

  1. LOVE! Gorgeous use of color, especially the green "framing" on the front - so pretty.

Also, binding is evil. Pure, pure evil. The only way I can ever get mine to look good is to machine sew the front & hand sew the back. I even tried using invisible thread to do the whole thing on the machine, and it was still a disaster.

I like the flip & fold method you did - it looks really tidy!
